My speech
My speech topic is Tui
I chose this topic because we are doing it because we are about writing.
When I presented my speech I felt very nervous
What I did well was I did my introduction
What I could have done better is my volume
Here is my speech:
Have you ever wondered why our native birds are in danger, especially our Tuis? Do you know why Tui’s are an important native bird and why we need to protect them? Tuis are a native bird that drink nectar from the flowers in peoples backyards. I believe that Tuis need to be protected. Here are my 3 reasons why.
Firstly, introduced animals like stoats, weasels, and rats can eat the Tuis eggs or the chicks in the nest. We need to protect the tui by helping tramp the pest animals by using stoat traps and bait stations.
Secondly, Tuis are pollinators of many of our native trees. When a Tui drinks nectar, it gets a little bit of pollen on its body. When it goes to visit the next tree, it can transport the pollen. This helps to grow more trees for our native forests.
Lastly, Tuis are one of New Zealand's favourite native birds. They have a fluffy white tuft on their neck and they sing a beautiful song. You can see them in all three islands of New Zealand.
I strongly believe that we should keep our NZ native bird safe from danger. The Tui have an important role in New Zealand so we need to look after them.
